Thank you Equinox

Friday 29 September, 2017 was my last day at Equinox. Equinox has been a great company to work for and I thank Kerry, Cameron and Chong for providing me the opportunity. Equinox have been and will continue to be at the forefront of delivering quality housing (much of it affordable) in Auckland with a nitty gritty persistence and relentless innovation in brokering deals. They put an enormous amount on the line, and face up to almost insurmountable obstacles  to help Auckland get more housing. Still, Equinox delivers and I am proud to have played a small part in their journey.

Yes it has been a long time since the last post! BUT I HAVE BEEN BUSY as you will soon see.

That’s how many words and pages I am into my first book. Today, I can say I have pretty much completed the first draft of the content with structure intact. Apparently that’s the easy bit done.

The book writing process is an interesting one, something I will have to write a blog on one day. There are plenty of ups and downs on the motivation front. Some days you think the entire structure is wrong and others you forget what sort of style you are supposed to be writing in. Often I just cant be bothered turning the computer, especially after a big day in the real world – the TV show ‘Million Dollar Listing’ on Bravo doesn’t help either!. On other days, my phone becomes the book writing tool – it is already on after all and for some reason, the effort doesn’t seem as much, even though its highly inefficient. This blog post is also an attempt to semi-publicly keep my commitment to deliver this thing!

Today was easy to get into it, its raining outside and my daughter is spending most of the time potty training next to  me while the rest of the family are out. There is also an element of  cathartic release involved as writing helps improve your ability to clarify, strategize and deal with the very day to day things you are writing about.

Down but not out!

It has been a very busy last 10 months. I have been focusing on my day job, now involving multiple residential and mixed use development projects with hundreds of homes, apartments and commercial premises at different stages of planning, design, consenting, sales, construction and settlements.

I also  delivered my 2015 contract with Unitec – the property development paper for final year students, and re-engaged for 2016 starting in a few months.

Unfortunately the blog has suffered as I have not devoted the time to research nor to creating the opinion pieces.

However, rest assured any spare time not browsing real estate listings is being well spent – I have a book in the works……an introduction to residential property development management…..and the first draft is nearing completion.

This blog will of course be the first to know when it is published.

2016 Predictions for Property and Construction

“Prediction is very difficult, especially if it’s about the future.”

That quote politely sums up the prediction business from the 1922 Nobel prize in physics winner, Niels Bohr, a Danish quantum physicist. I gave up on the prediction business some time ago, to be precise 2008, after believing in continued demand for Arizona real estate and a ‘worse case’ being a leveling of prices as population growth would remain strong.
Now I think Warren Ellis has a more apt description:
“I try not to get involved in the business of prediction. It’s a quick way to look like an idiot.”

Nonetheless, the professional predictions for real estate in 2016 keep on coming so here are what others are saying:
